Most of us start thinking about taking the bike out of the garage once the snow melts and the sun begins to stay out longer. In some cases the bike needs a little “TLC” to get it ready for the new season and that first spin around the block. Or maybe you’ll just treat yourself to a new bike. In either case Cycle Butik in Etobicoke has you covered.

Cycle Butik is located at 2749 Lake Shore Boulevard West and is every bicycle lovers dream. Having moved to an expanded space recently there is more stock than ever. Road bikes, mountain bikes, commuter bikes, European city bikes, and BMX bikes (that’s a lot of bikes), you’ll find it all here. Cycle Butik is a one-stop shop as you can pick up all your gear including clothing, accessories, and safety gear. Before buying a bike you’ll want to make sure it’s a good match for you physically. You might be able to find a good bike at a big box store but you’ll want the service and experience of people for whom bicycling is all they do. It’s no surprise that Cycle Butik is an Etobicoke Guardian reader’s choice winner and one of the best bike shops in Toronto.

Just like a car needing an oil change your bike will benefit from little proactive maintenance before each riding season. I recall riding my bike last year near James Gardens Park when my bicycle chain snapped. I ended up having to walk my bike back to my house about eight kilometres away. A simple bike tune-up would have fixed the issue long before the breakdown. Lesson learned. Cycle Butik offers a few bicycle tune-up options so you’ll be able to choose the one that suits your needs.

If you’re looking at buying a new bike or just want to tune up your current ride, call the experts at Cycle Butik. They’ll have you out there and pedalling in no time.

  1. This shop gets a zero rating from my experience.

After popping a tube in my front tire, I decided to stop into Cycle Butik to have it replaced. Not only was I completely unimpressed by the grumpy, condescending attitude of the employee (Aussie guy) at the counter, I also ended up in an accident due to their non-thorough work on my bike.

I got my tube replaced and proceeded on my ride. About 15 minutes later, I started to feel a strong wobbling in my front tire, which is the one I got replaced. I immediately realized that the latch to secure the tire in place was completely unlatched, causing my tire to nearly fall off my bike. The guy who was supposed to service my bike didn’t tighten it on properly! Unfortunately for me, the wobbling distracted me and caused me to crash into a curb and completely wipe out. Due to my accident, I suffered a scraped elbow and a sore wrist, a banged up bike, and my chain fell off.

The situation could have been worse but it should not have happened at all. I felt that I had wasted my money ($15 service fee to replace an $8 tube) and was upset that the person who treated me poorly in the first place did an equally as poor job being thorough.

I would not recommend Cycle Butik to anyone. In fact, I will warn everyone against it.

  2. I agree with Mark, worst service I have ever experienced. We brought two bikes in to get tuned up, received a call that both bikes were complete I confirmed on the phone that both bikes were done, they said yes. Went to pick them up two days later guess what they only did one bike & didn’t even complete everything they were supposed to do.

From the moment we went to pick up the bikes the same employee as above was nothing but condescending and rude. He didn’t care one bit that they messed up and offered no apology just lame excuses. They then proceeded to try and rush through the second bike. They don’t appreciate you business so go someplace else. I will never go to them again and will tell everyone I know about the service they provide.

  3. I would like to add to my initial feedback. This will further prove that the negative experience I had was not a random case, but a common practice at Cycle Butik.

I decided not to call the shop immediately after my accident because I had a feeling that my complaint would not be taken seriously by the employee I mentioned in my previous post. After all, he was smug and condescending in the first place, so I had no reason to think that he would accept responsibility for his poor bike service. I decided instead to contact the shop via email the following day and it did not get any better.

I explained everything that had happened the previous day, from the negative customer service to the horrendous bike service which led to my accident, but what I got in return was completely unhelpful. The person who responded to my email (someone under the name Thomas) was very brief and unaccommodating. All he said was that he was sorry and that this was not common place at his shop, and he offered me a year of free tune-ups. I replied by telling him that I already had five years of free tune-ups at my local bike shop and that I would obviously be uncomfortable getting my bike serviced at the shop which caused all of this in the first place. I also explained that my brand new bicycle now had not only dings and scratches all over it, but that it had also sustained a dented rim from the accident. What I got back to this message was NOTHING.

Cycle Butik has now decided to ignore my emails and fails to reach a conclusion. Thanks to their terrible service, I now own a month and a half old bicycle that looks and feels much older; it has scratches, dings, and a bent rim. And how do I get repaid for their poor service? With more poor service.

If you ever need your bike serviced or repaired, please do not go there… unless, of course, you want some of the worst customer service you have ever experienced and an injury to follow.

  4. Wow, I was just thinking of taking my bike to this place for a tune-up…
I guess I’ll look else where.

    Thanks,
    Cheers!

  5. Same here. I was thinking about doing a tune up there and when looking at google map, couldn’t find much helpful review (expect for that one saying owner can see and delete any reviews he wants). Reading those reviews about poor customer service, I understand why the shop would want to hide customer’s feedback from the public. I will go somewhere else. Not taking any chances. Thanks all for sharing.
