Pulcinella

When my dad returned from Italy one year he began work on a wood-burning pizza oven. He slaved over construction and after several months it was done. The pizza that came out of that oven was delicious and tasted just like it would in Italy. There has to be an easier way to get that same authentic Napoletana pizza than building your own oven. That’s where Pulcinella Ristorante Italiano in Etobicoke comes in.

Pulcinella Restaurant, located at 3687 Lake Shore Boulevard West, strives to achieve that authentic Italian flavour not only in their pizza but in everything they offer. From the outside facade where an original Fiat 500 is parked and the Pulcinella clown mask is displayed, you’ll realize that no effort was spared in bringing a little of the old country to Etobicoke. With both upstairs and downstairs dining areas Pulcinella can accommodate diners and special events alike.

It would be a crime if I did not mention the menu which is categorized by Primi (Appetizers), Secondi (Seconds), and Carne e Pesce (Meat and Fish). Basically, the same courses you would get at an Italian wedding but far tastier. With several classic thin pizzas available all priced under $17, you can easily picture yourself eating that same pizza in a piazza in Rome. Don’t forget dessert (dolci) in which I’d recommend the very rich tiramisu. Pulcinella has participated in both Winterlicious and Summerlicious but be warned, it could be very busy during these events.

Pulcinella Restaurant, or more accurately Pulcinella Ristorante Italiano, offers traditional Italian fare right here in the heart of Etobicoke. Be sure to visit them for lunch or dinner… ciao!

  1. This is my favorite restaurant in Toronto, and it’s right around the corner.

I discovered Pulcinella just last fall. Apparently it had opened open for about two years earlier. Who knew! Just the lucky ones. Quietly tucked away in SW Etobicoke on the Lakeshore just before Brown’s Line and Marie Curtis Park, it is everything I would hope for in an authentic Italian restaurant. I didn’t pick a specific menu item, I simply described what I was hoping for – various fish amid anti-pasta and pasta – and they prepared it for me along with an excellent wine recommendation perfectly suited. The owner was sincere with his personal greeting to myself and my friend, the server was respectful and prompt, and both appeared sincere in their desire to help with our selection. I return frequently now and have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone visiting the Lakeshore looking for a memorable evening out.
