I grew up in a household where there was an outdoor pizza oven in the backyard so I guess that qualifies me somewhat as to what makes a good pizza. Even more qualified is Dino, owner and proprietor of Dino’s Wood Burning Pizza in Etobicoke.
Dino’s Wood Burning Pizza is located at 820 The Queensway, at about the midway point between Islington Avenue and Royal York Road. It’s not a huge space but it can accommodate quite a few people inside and several more on the patio out front. Another thing you’ll notice is the huge wood burning pizza oven that takes up almost the entire kitchen area. Personally, what I really appreciated was the jar of Spicy Olive Oil on the table that adds a little kick to your “pizza pie”.
A pizza in a wood-burning oven tastes very different from those cooked in your chain and franchise pizza ovens. In a wood-burning oven you get that ever so slight taste of “earthiness” (if that’s a word) and the dome radiates the heat across the dough more evenly. Dino’s Wood Burning Pizzas are available for delivery, take-out, or eat-in and come in a medium 13 inch (perfect if you’re hungry), a large 15 inch (perfect if you’re starving), and an extra-large 23 inch (perfect if you’re sharing). With traditional sides such as wings, garlic bread, and salads to the great selection of pides, you have all the makings of a very hearty meal. Don’t forget to include a Brio or San Pelligrino pop to quench your thirst.
I was quite surprised that over half the people who came in called Dino by name and he did the same right back! Obviously these were returning customers who loved Dino and his pizzas. But make no mistake, all the pleasant greetings in the world will not do you any good if your pizza doesn’t taste great. And the pizza at Dino’s Wood Burning Pizza in Etobicoke is fantastic!
