Have you ever wondered what to do with your beautifully sculpted pumpkin after Halloween? It always seemed like a shame to just throw it in the trash or onto the compost pile in the backyard. That’s probably what the originators of the Mimico Pumpkin Parade thought too and the result is one of the most unique community events in Etobicoke, fun for all ages.
The Mimico Pumpkin Parade takes place every year on November 1st from 6pm to 8:30pm the day after Halloween with this year’s 6th annual event taking place on a Wednesday. Residents are invited to bring their Jack-O-Lanterns down to Mimico Square and Amos Waites Park to display their artistic ability and Halloween spirit. Doesn’t that sound much better than throwing out your hard work? Volunteers help light up and display the Jack-O-Lanterns and with organizers hoping for over 600 pumpkins this year it should be quite the show. Imagine seeing hundreds upon hundred of jack-o-lanterns glowing, big and small, perfectly round or misshapen, and all with different designs done by adults and children alike. The result is fantastically eerie and also breath-taking. This free family-friendly event is sponsored by the Mimico By The Lake BIA.
So don’t toss that pumpkin into the garbage bin after Halloween. Bring it, and your neighbours pumpkin too, down to the Mimico Pumpkin Parade. A fantastic community event perfect for the whole family.
