Located at Centennial Park, the Etobicoke Olympium is quite the structure. It opened in 1976 and is considered a premiere multi-purpose centre for sports and recreation.
The aquatics section consists of a 50m competitive pool along with multiple diving boards. The Olympium has been the site for many national and international competitions, numerous film, photo, and commercial shoots and hosted the 2004 Olympic swimming trials. The gymnasium is a 13,200 square foot, air-conditioned double gym, perfect for basketball, ball hockey, volleyball, or indoor soccer equipped with bleacher seating for 750. The exercise and training centre is 4,800 square feet with hardwood floors, indoor running track and is perfect for martial arts. The onsite pro shop also carries a wide range of athletic equipment and apparel.
This weekend the Etobicoke Olympium will host the 2010 Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships. Over 100 athletes will be competing in various levels and age groups. These athletes have already competed in Provincial Qualifiers and the top 60% will be at this competition to determine the Champions by levels. This is a 3 day event.
I’m feeling lazy after writing all this so I might head over to the Etobicoke Olympium to swim a few laps. Maybe not.
