For a relatively small city within the GTA, Etobicoke has a super-vibrant art and theatre scene thanks to fantastic organizations such as Etobicoke Musical Productions.
Etobicoke Musical Productions (EMP) is a not-for-profit theatre company that was formed way back in 1965 and is a member of Arts Etobicoke as well as other prominent art organizations in Ontario. The organization runs just like any other professional business by electing a Board of Directors that administers the day to day operations. As such, EMP is able to produce two shows each year and uses the services of a director, musical director, and choreographer. With facilities rental, production royalties, costumes, sets, lighting/sound, and music, one can easily see the effort that goes into each production.
To run its shows Etobicoke Musical Productions relies on memberships and its Patrons Program. Members receive a monthly newsletter, voting privileges, and the satisfaction of knowing that you are supporting theatre in the community. There are also various sponsorship opportunities via the Patrons Program, and sponsors are listed in each show program. It’s a great way to get your name out in the community.
In addition to its theatre shows, Etobicoke Musical Productions funds a scholarship for the Etobicoke School of the Arts. The scholarship, with a matching contribution from the Ontario Arts Council Foundation, is presented annually to a student majoring in Music Theatre who “demonstrates ability, leadership, and community involvement”.
Be sure to get your tickets Etobicoke Musical Productions’ current show Ragtime The Musical and support the great art scene in our city.
