Etobicoke has lots going for it including some unique shopping experiences and great restaurants. However, it’s the outdoor events such as the annual Spring Bird Festival down by the lake where our proud little city of Etobicoke really shines.
The 9th Annual Spring Bird Festival takes place Saturday May 26th 2018 at Colonel Sam Smith Park and the number of visitors who attend grows each year. Put on by Parks, Forestry, and Recreation, this is a fun-filled morning that is perfect for the entire family. There will be activities, crafts and games, displays, and a backyard habitat building workshop. But wait there’s more! They’ll have reptiles and amphibians for the young ones to marvel at, art workshops, and photography clinics. We’re hoping for fantastic weather as it’s a day not to be missed.
But the highlight for us at the Spring Bird Festival are the Free Guided Bird Walks running each hour starting at 10am. These bird walks are run by the CCFEW which stands for the Citizens Concerned about the Future of the Etobicoke Waterfront. The CCFEW’s mission is a noble one as they were responsible for limiting the development that would have taken place in the area and the formation of the Humber Bay Shores Park, which will no doubt show up on our list in the near future.
The CCFEW Bird Walks take place approximately ten times per year and take place during all four seasons. These nature walks help participants understand our surrounding environment with the emphasis of these walks focusing on birds. These walks are in part sponsored by Birds and Beans Café.
Bring your kids to the Spring Bird Festival and experience nature-based activities that will no doubt put smiles on your child’s face, and yours!
