Warning: Don’t glance over this entry. When someone mentions “going to the racetrack” visions of chain-smoking gamblers tearing up losing tickets may enter your mind. What actually goes on at Woodbine Racetrack is something much more fun and exhilarating.
Woodbine Racetrack is located at 555 Rexdale Boulevard (South-West corner of Rexdale and Hwy 27) in Etobicoke and is steeped in tradition. For one it is the yearly host of the Queen’s Plate, part of Canada’s Triple Crown of horse racing. It is also the site of Secretariat’s very last race, arguably the greatest horse to have ever raced. It’s hard to believe that such a historic event would have taken place in our little city of Etobicoke.
Woodbine Racetrack has gone over so many improvements over the years that it’s hard to list them all. From numerous restaurants to the track itself, you’ll have no problem spending an afternoon or a night here. Woodbine is also the perfect venue for company functions. With numerous meeting rooms and dining rooms, your company’s staff will be treated like royalty with betting vouchers as well as a “betting team” that will teach you how to bet the various combinations available. They also added slot machines for those that want to forgo the excitement of watching horses thunder down the track. I went for the first time on a date several years ago (the minimum bet is still $2) and had a blast. Sure, I didn’t really know what I was doing and I wasn’t playing with a lot of money but by the end of the night I was actually ahead! By the way, did I mention that there is free parking and no entrance fee?
So if you’re looking for something different to do take your boyfriend or girlfriend, wife or husband, or bring the kids to watch these magnificent beasts race down the track on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Going to the track isn’t what it used to be, especially at Woodbine Racetrack.
