Note: M&M is no longer holding the charity bbq event in support of Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada beginning in 2015. Instead, they will be selling coupon books with proceeds going to CCFC. While disappointing to see such a successful event being cancelled hopefully another organization can pick up the ball. It truly is a great thing when successful businesses take up a cause and raise money for charity through fun events. The annual Charity BBQ Day put on by M&M Meat Shops across Etobicoke and all of Canada is one of the events that we can all get behind and enjoy a tasty burger while we’re at it.
On Saturday May 10th, 2014, Canadians can help cook up a cure! Visit any M&M Meat Shops location across Canada to support the 25th Annual M&M Meat Shops Charity BBQ Day benefiting Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada (CCFC). M&M Meat Shops franchisees, staff and thousands of volunteers from coast-to-coast will grill hamburgers and hot dogs to meet the 2013 fundraising goal of $1.3 million. For $3 you get a delicious M&M Meat Shops hamburger or hot dog, a drink, and chips. Every penny goes to help the CCFC. M&M Meat Shops also have coupon books available for $5 that will save you $50 on delicious M&M products.
As a sufferer of ulcerative colitis this charity hits close to home. Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are two forms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that affect more than 200,000 Canadian men, women and children. Crohn’s and colitis are painful and chronic diseases characterized by inflammation and sores on the gastrointestinal wall, both diseases go into periods of “flare-up” and remission with inflammations ranging from mild and easily manageable to severe and debilitating. I have learned to adapt to the disease but it breaks my heart when I think about children who don’t quite know why there bodies are making them hurt so much. We need to find a cure.
So on Saturday be sure to make a quick stop at an M&M Meat Shop in Etobicoke, Toronto, or Mississauga and pick up a burger or hot dog for Charity BBQ Day.
