It’s a brand new year and yet there are still people in need. There always will be. Thank goodness for organizations such as Haven on the Queensway in Etobicoke to give us a helping hand when we’re down.
Haven on the Queensway, located at 1533 The Queensway just West of Ikea, “is a nonprofit charitable organization providing humanitarian relief to people in our community by meeting their physical and emotional needs”. There is no need to feel shame as the people at Haven on the Q respect those seeking help and all services are free and confidential.
Having opened their doors in 2009 Haven on the Queensway has been helping people in Etobicoke and surrounding communities. “At the Haven they can find food, clothing, resource support, a cup of coffee or soup, a smile and an encouraging word”. Their main programs are the food bank which serves hundreds of people weekly as well as Hope with Wheels that provides hot meals to those unable to visit the food bank. They also provide other services such as the “Clothes Closet, Children’s Book Centre, Pregnancy Care, mentoring, support and recovery groups, employment and career counsel, and community service referrals”.
Haven on the Queensway also participates in several events throughout the year including the Coldest Night of the Year, a family friendly fundraising walk for the homeless. They also hold a dental and medical clinic where free dental and medical service is provided. The Haven Fundraising Golf Tournament takes place each summer where good and not-so-good golfers raise funds for the organization.
It’s not easy work however and donations are required to keep this good work going. Haven on the Queensway graciously accepts any donation you can afford. Instructions on how to donate can be found here.
Etobicoke is a fantastic place to live but we are not immune to physical and emotional needs when they do arise. We can all help through much-needed organizations like Haven on the Queensway.
