There are very few drinking establishments (read: bars) that have true character and history. Most places hang up a few neon signs and think, “there you go, we have a bar now”, but not Hollywood on the Queensway. A true Etobicoke landmark!
Hollywood on the Queensway is located conveniently at 1184 The Queensway and is hard to miss. It’s a fairly large establishment with a huge patio, a great painted mural on the outside, and lots of free parking. Driving by on the weekends you can see that the lot gets quite full. I remember the first time I visited Hollywood on the Queensway and thinking to myself that it reminded me of Roadhouse, the awesome(?) Patrick Swayze movie from the 80s. It just seemed like a rough and tumble place where the bouncer was also the bartender, the roadie, and the janitor. Times have changed and it’s been cleaned up quite a bit but the character remains.
Hollywood on the Queensway used to be known as OV’s but with much improved renovations to the entire bar. With seating for over 250 guests on the inside and outside, the atmosphere can get pretty festive. There are weekly menu specials so be sure to ask your server. Enjoy the live band every Friday and Sunday night as well as every other Thursday or get down to some oldies every Saturday night with the DJ taking requests. For special events there’s also a banquet hall downstairs that can accommodate up to 150 people and can be booked for personal or corporate events. Hollywood is also an excellent place to watch live UFC events.
I usually make it a point to go to Hollywood on the Queensway after watching a movie at the nearby Cineplex Odeon Queensway. It feels like this place has been here forever and that’s just one of the reasons why I enjoy it so much.
